FAQs

At Michael Keane Psychology, we understand that taking the first step towards support can feel overwhelming. Below are some of the most common questions people ask. If you don’t see your answer here, please feel free to get in touch.

What services do you provide?

We offer Multidisciplinary Autism Assessments for children / teens  aged 3–18 years as well as psychoeducation and support. Our approach is evidence-based, compassionate, and tailored to each individual’s needs.

Do I need a referral?

You don’t always need a referral to book an appointment. Parents and guardians can contact us directly, but we also welcome referrals from schools, GPs, and other healthcare professionals.

How long does an assessment take?

Every child is different, but a full autism assessment usually takes place over two to three months. This allows us to gather information from parents, schools, and the child themselves to ensure a comprehensive and accurate outcome.

What happens during an autism assessment?

The assessment involves interviews with parents/guardians, observations, standardised testing, and collaboration with other professionals if needed. The aim is to gain a full understanding of the child’s strengths, challenges, and support needs.

Are parents involved in the process?

Yes, parents and guardians play a key role. We encourage collaboration so that strategies and supports can be reinforced at home and in school.

Is everything confidential?

Yes. All sessions and assessments are completely confidential, unless there are safeguarding concerns. We follow strict professional and ethical guidelines to ensure your privacy is respected at all times.

How do I book an appointment?

You can reach out via our contact page to arrange an appointment. We’ll be happy to guide you through the next steps.

What services do you not provide?

ADHD diagnostic assessments

While screening for ADHD can be provided as outlined above, I typically refer on to a paediatrician for ADHD assessments.

Assessments for Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD)/Dyspraxia

DCD/Dyspraxia must be diagnosed by an Occupational Therapist who is experienced in this area. Again, I can make onward refferal if necessary.

Therapy/Intervention

Currently, we do not provide therapy services (e.g., CBT or talking therapies, or assessments for mental health difficulties).

We do not provide medico-legal reports or engage in court work.
