Autism (ASD) Assessments for Teenagers

Autism (ASD) Assessments for Teenagers

Michael Keane offers comprehensive autism assessments tailored for adolescents, following a structured, best-practice approach.

The Assessment Process:

  1. Background Information

    • Initial phone consultation with parents.

    • Parents receive forms to complete (background details, social responsiveness, consent).

    • Additional investigation for dyspraxia/DCD, intellectual disability, or dyslexia/dyscalculia may be included if relevant.

  2. Teen Assessment

    • Conducted at Michael’s Kilbarrack office.

    • Activity-based autism diagnostic interview (ADOS – Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule).

    • Always carried out with two clinicians (psychologist plus SLT or OT).

    • Parents usually wait in our canteen unless the teen requests otherwise.

  3. Parent Interview

    • ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised) carried out, typically in person (Zoom possible if needed).

    • Verbal feedback often provided at this stage.

  4. Report & Recommendations

    • A detailed clinical report is emailed to parents with recommendations for home, school, and onward supports.

    • Option of a follow-up feedback meeting.

Additional Notes:

  • If intellectual disability or dyslexia/dyscalculia is suspected, a separate cognitive assessment may follow.

  • The process can take time due to multiple stages and high service demand.

Fees:

  • ASD Assessment: €1,600

  • ASD + Cognitive Assessment: €1,850

  • ASD + Dyslexia Assessment: €2,000

  • Payment is staged (€300 at ADOS, €500 at ADI-R, remainder upon report).

  • Payment accepted by bank transfer to Bank of Ireland, Revolut transfer to Bank of Ireland, or cash.
